With spring practices having come to an end for Mississippi State football, we’re beginning to see further changes to the roster.

Mississippi State football played its 2024 spring game this past Saturday, and now they’re beginning to see movement in the transfer portal. Which players have joined the roster? Who’s on their way out? And what’s happening with State’s portal targets?

Here’s the latest transfer portal news for Mississippi State…

Following the spring game, Jeff Lebby told media MSU would be pursuing defensive backs in the portal. He didn’t have to wait long to add one, with former Memphis corner DeAgo Brumfield committing shortly after. Brumfield, who began his career at the NAIA level before walking-on for the Tigers, started 12 games in 2023 and led Memphis with 10 passes broken up.

He becomes the second former Tiger to join MSU’s secondary alongside Traveon Wright, both of whom are reuniting with their former DC Matt Barnes, who serves as Co-DC and Safeties coach on Jeff Lebby’s staff.

On Monday, Bulldog quarterback Mike Wright announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. The dynamic athlete joined MSU last season to serve as Will Rogers’ backup after spending the first three years of his career at Vanderbilt. He saw regular playing time as a wildcat QB, and started three games for the Bulldogs when Rogers went down with injury.Mississippi State Football: Bulldogs' 2023 Spring Preview - Athlon Sports

With Blake Shapen coming in to serve as State’s 2024 starter and both Chris Parson and Michael Van Buren being better fits for the offense, it comes as no surprise that Wright would explore options elsewhere for his final year of eligibility.

One of State’s reserve linebackers jumped in the portal on Monday. Khalid Moore is transferring after two seasons in Starkville. The Poplarville native was rated as a 4-star coming out of high school in 2022. After redshirting in his true freshman season, Moore saw limited playing time as a redshirt freshman in 2023. Though plenty of opportunity exists in the MSU LB room going into this season, Moore was likely to be behind several others in that group.
