It’s an achievement attained by only the truly exceptional goal kickers in the history of the NRL, and now Broncos Captain Adam Reynolds has become just the second player to slot 1000 goals.
Reynolds marked his name in the history books on Friday night after landing his eighth kick of the night in the Broncos thumping 54-10 win over the Eels at The Gabba.
“It was something that I knew was upcoming in the back of my mind, but I tried not to think about it and just focus on playing good footy,” Reynolds told the media.
“To be honest, 1000 goals is a bit of a surreal feeling and I’m proud of how far things have come in terms of my game and kicking ability.”
“This achievement is just a testament to all my teammates hard work throughout my career at both the Broncos and the Rabbitohs. You can’t kick a heap of goals without a heap of tries.”
Cameron Smith currently holds the goalkicking crown with 1,295 goals, as Reynolds will now look to chase another 296 more goals before the title is his.
“I can’t say that chasing Cam (Smith) wouldn’t be a goal of mine, but for now I’m happy to have taken number two and my focus remains on the finals.”
The Broncos return in Round 26 from a well-earned bye to face the Canberra Raiders in the Nation’s capital.
