In a development that could significantly impact the NFL landscape, it has been reported that one of the league’s top wide receivers, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, has expressed a desire to be traded before the approaching Nov. 5 deadline. This news, confirmed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, raises questions about the future of both
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has indicated that the Raiders are open to discussions and would “consider” trading Adams for a deal that includes a second-round draft pick along with additional compensation. This proposition hints at the organization’s willingness to rebuild while still valuing Adams’ contributions to the team.
Adams had an impressive performance last season, recording 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns over 17 games. His current season has seen him catching 18 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown in just three games, maintaining his status as a reliable target. Impressively, he has achieved over 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last four seasons, underscoring his elite talent.
Though Adams is in the third year of a lucrative five-year, $140 million contract, his situation is complicated. The final two years of his contract are non-guaranteed, making it easier for the Raiders to consider a trade. While his cap hit for the 2024 season stands at $25.35 million, it escalates to a staggering $44.1 million in 2025 and 2026, per Spotrac. With the Raiders holding $70.196 million in cap space for the 2025 season, trading Adams could provide them with the flexibility to pursue other significant acquisitions in free agency.
