SAD NEWS: Washington Commanders key player involved in a ca….

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) looks for open receivers against the Cardinals during a game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ status for their Week 8 game against the Chicago Bears remains uncertain.

Daniels suffered a rib injury in the first quarter of the team’s Week 7 win against the Carolina Panthers. That immediately put us on injury watch, with early updates not looking encouraging for the Washington QB. Before Wednesday’s injury report even came out, Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn said that Daniels would not practice on Wednesday. And he didn’t. Quinn added that Marcus Mariota would take first-team reps and that he expects to know more about Daniels’ status on Friday.

“I want to make sure he can be, you know, fully express himself and do all of the things that he does, which makes him so unique and special,” Quinn said on Wednesday (h/t NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport).

Daniels has impressed in his rookie season, completing 75.6 percent of his passes for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions while also rushing for 372 yards and four touchdowns. Mariota stepped in during the team’s blowout win over Carolina, throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

Aside from Jayden Daniels, the Commanders are dealing with some injuries to other key players as they prepare for their matchup with the Bears on Sunday. Tackle Brandon Coleman is in concussion protocol and did not participate today

Tight end Zach Ertz was a non-participant on Wednesday, but that was due to rest rather than injury, so he’ll be a go on Sunday.

Guard Nick Allegretti and center Tyler Biadasz were limited with ankle and thumb injuries, respectively. Wide receiver Dyami Brown (ankle), Clelin Ferrell (knee), Dante Fowler Jr. (groin), Cornelius Lucas (neck), Tyler Owens (shin), and Emmanuel Forbes (thumb) were all listed on today’s injury report, with all but Forbes being limited participants in practice.
