Behind a game-high 16 points from Dontavia Waggoner, the Boston College women’s basketball team earned an impressive 80-45 win against the University of New Hampshire on Wednesday night at Conte Forum.

Despite last week’s loss to Harvard, Eagles coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee remained confident in her team. And for sound reasoning as Boston College has since responded with back-to-back wins against Providence and New Hampshire to improve its record to 5-1.

I have a lot of confidence in this team,” said Bernabei-McNamee after the Harvard loss in a school press release. “I think this was a game that we’re really going to grow from. That’s one thing I understand about this team: they’re going to stick together.

We needed a game where we were challenged, and while we should have come out on top, credit to Harvard for coming out with a great game plan, some good adjustments at halftime, and getting the best of us when Harmony Turner played a great game.”

It didn’t take the Eagles long to advance, as they maintained an early 17-10 lead through one quarter. That style of play continued in the second as Boston College outscored the Wildcats by seven to ensure a 32-18 halftime lead.

Andrea Daley also reached double digits for the Eagles, as the senior shot 6-of-11 from the field for 12 points and recorded five rebounds. Athena Tomlinson (nine) and JaKayla Thompson (nine) were next with 18 combined points, while Savannah Samuel helped the cause with multiple 3-pointers.

The opening margin only increased after the break, as Boston College outscored New Hampshire 48-27 during the final 20 minutes of regulation to hand the Wildcats their second-season loss.
