UB40 wouldn’t reunite with Ali Campbell for ‘all the money in the world….

UB40, the legendary British reggae band, has made it clear that a reunion with former lead singer Ali Campbell is off the table—”for all the money in the world.” This strong statement reflects the ongoing tension between Campbell and the remaining band members, particularly his brother, Robin Campbell, and drummer Jimmy Brown. Ali Campbell left UB40 in 2008 after a dispute over management and business disagreements, sparking a divide within the band. Since then, Ali has continued to tour under the name “UB40 featuring Ali Campbell,” while the original UB40 lineup, led by Robin, has forged ahead with new music and performances.

In a candid interview on *The Trawl Podcast*, both Robin and Jimmy discussed the long-standing rift with Ali. Jimmy Brown explained that there was no financial incentive that could bring about a reunion. He remarked, “All the money in the world wouldn’t get us to do that,” highlighting the severity of the band’s position on the matter. Brown also underscored that while Ali’s departure had been painful, the band has since thrived with new vocalist Matt Doyle, who they praised for his talent and energy.

Robin Campbell echoed his brother’s sentiments, clarifying that the split was never about personal animosity. He clarified, “It wasn’t brothers falling out. He left the band,” distancing the separation from a familial dispute. However, Robin also reflected on the close bond Ali shared with the late Brian Travers, the band’s saxophonist, emphasizing that their history together was deep. Despite this, the decision to move forward without Ali remains steadfast.

The tension between Ali and the rest of the band has been well-documented, with each side expressing differing views on what led to his departure. Ali, for his part, has discussed his feelings of betrayal and disappointment with how the band’s management handled things, while the remaining members of UB40 have expressed their frustration with Ali’s exit. The band has since found stability with Matt Doyle, who they believe is a perfect fit for the current lineup.

Ultimately, despite any financial offers or reconciliation efforts, it seems the chance of a reunion between UB40 and Ali Campbell is highly unlikely. As Jimmy Brown put it succinctly, “All the money in the world wouldn’t get us to do that,” signaling that both parties are committed to their separate paths in the music industry.
