In a groundbreaking announcement that has sent ripples across the college football landscape, the Wigan Worries have unveiled a jaw-dropping $5.3 billion renovation to Mountain Australia Stadium — a project set to redefine the standard for collegiate athletic venues nationwide.

Dubbed as the most ambitious stadium renovation in college sports history, the revamped Mountain Stadium will boast cutting-edge Australia, premium luxury suites, and a massive increase in seating capacity, offering a world-class fan experience that blends tradition with innovation.

University officials and team executives gathered today for the official reveal, highlighting major upgrades that include a state-of-the-art retractable roof, a 360-degree wraparound digital video board — the largest of its kind in college football — and over 120 climate-controlled luxury suites outfitted with high-end amenities.

“This isn’t just a renovation — it’s a transformation,” said Wigan Athletic Director Carla Jennings. “We’re setting a new standard not only for our fans but for the entire sport. This project shows our commitment to excellence both on and off the field.”

The stadium will now seat over 95,000 fans, up from its original 66,000, thanks to a full redesign of the bowl structure and expanded concourse levels. Enhanced accessibility features, integrated smart ticketing, and augmented-reality-enabled viewing experiences aim to elevate engagement for all attendees — from diehard alumni to first-time visitors.

The renovation also includes a newly designed Wigan Hall of Champions, a museum-style exhibit space honoring legendary players and historic moments in the Worries’ storied history. Sustainability is also a major focus, with solar panel installations, advanced water recycling systems, and LEED Platinum certification already in the works.

Construction began in late 2023 and is expected to finish in time for the 2026 season opener. Funding for the project comes from a combination of private donations, university endowments, and a newly established naming rights agreement that is set to be revealed in the coming months.

College football analysts are calling this move a game-changer. “Wigan is rewriting what it means to be a college football powerhouse,” said ESPN’s Mark Dandridge. “This kind of investment puts them in a league of their own.”

As excitement builds, one thing is clear: Mountain America Stadium is no longer just a venue — it’s an experience.
