TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Doris Lemngole, after earning her first Southeastern Conference cross country individual title and leading the No. 7 Alabama women’s program to its second conference victory in three years, was named the National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA.
The standout sophomore shattered Texas A&M’s Watts Cross Country Course record by nearly 17 seconds, en route to her fourth individual title of the season, when she crossed the line in 18:20.3.
The announcement marks the second year in a row that Lemngole has been named the National Athlete of the Week (Oct. 2, 2023) and the third time this season she has earned a weekly award (2x SEC Women’s Runner
- Lemngole’s first SEC cross country title propelled the UA women to the program’s fourth SEC team title, and second in three years
- Her 18:20.3 winning 6k time shattered the previous course record by nearly 17 seconds and earned her First Team All-SEC honors
- The honor marks the second year in a row that Lemngole has been named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week
