Injury Udate: Treylon Burks injury update: Tennessee Titans WR, former 1st-round pick, has ACL surgery

Former Tennessee Titans first-round pick Treylon Burks’ disappointing third season is officially over.

Burks will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery to repair an ACL injury, Titans coach Brian Callahan announced Wednesday. Burks has been on injured reserve since October with an unspecified knee injury. The Titans hadn’t been getting much out of Burks prior to the injury; the receiver only caught four passes in five games, being used primarily as the team’s No. 3 and No. 4 option.

“He went on IR with an ACL injury initially,” Callahan said. “It was a loose ACL. It wasn’t fully torn. So they had to go see some doctors and specialists and some weeks went by after he went on IR. But he eventually had to have surgery and he is out for the year.”

The Titans drafted Burks in the first round out of Arkansas in 2022, seemingly as an attempt to replace star receiver A.J. Brown, who the team traded to the Philadelphia Eagles minutes before selecting Burks. Burks’ three seasons in a Titans uniform have ranged from frustrating to underwhelming to downright disappointing. He’s only amassed 53 catches for 699 yards and one receiving touchdown as he’s dealt with a toe injury, multiple knee injuries and multiple concussions.

Without Burks, veteran receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has emerged as the Titans’ most reliable secondary receiving option, catching a team-leading eight touchdown passes. The Titans also have free agent adds Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd and rookies Jha’Quan Jackson and Bryce Oliver in the receiving corps.

Burks has one more guaranteed season on his rookie contract and the Titans have the option to pick his contract up for a fifth season if they want to.

The Titans (3-9) host the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-10) at Nissan Stadium on Sunday (noon, CBS).
