Ewers is odd. Sometimes, he’s an efficient machine like at Michigan. Other times, he looks like a lost puppy, like the first half of the Georgia game.

I think the first time Texas and Georgia played, he was still dealing with the oblique injury. If you compare it to JT Daniels’ oblique injury when he was at Georgia, the timeline works out so that about the time Daniels was cleared to play, Ewers was already in his second game back. He probably rushed it and in compensating for the injury, he developed some bad habits. I mostly trust him, but his ankle is a concern.

The Georgia game was a wakeup call. The Longhorns might have been listening to all the praise they were getting. UT was No. 1. ESPN “College GameDay” came to town, everyone was having fun.

I think Deion Sanders was right when he said, “Success is intoxicating. You start believing what they’re saying.” After the loss, they struggled at Vandy and struggled at Arkansas. Ewers was average in both games. But Texas still won both games and found some other ways to win tight ball games, like beefing up their rushing attack. If Ewers is having an off night, he is the Longhorns biggest weakness. This isn’t suggesting Texas go to Arch Manning or anything like that. But you can tell from his facial expression if he’s feeling good or bad.

Jalon Walker was a monster in the first meeting between Texas and Georgia. His three sacks and eight tackles put Texas in compromising situations and behind the chains all night. If Texas can’t contain him they can’t effectively run their offense.

Texas is one of the biggest brands in the sport. Even if Texas goes through a valley, they will always be “back” at some point. As the westernmost school in the conference, Texas should be able to cordon off a wide area it can dominate in recruiting.

Sark seems to be a national title caliber coach. And the next two years with Arch Manning under center is going to be a blast. Texas should be a contender for the SEC title for years to come.

For an 11-1 team, Texas has been through a good amount of adversity this season. I think losing to Georgia in October actually makes it more likely UT will win this game. Losing is a great teaching tool and revenge is an incredible motivator. If the Horns can block better than in the first game, they win.
