Breaking News: Netflix Announces Groundbreaking Curling Documentary Series Titled “Ice Kings: The Silent Roar”
LOS ANGELES – In a move that has stunned both the streaming world and winter sports enthusiasts, Netflix today confirmed it is set to release a major new documentary series centered entirely on the sport of curling.
Titled Ice Kings: The Silent Roar, the eight-part series promises to deliver “the intensity of chess, the drama of poker, and the raw physicality of… sweeping,” according to director Ava DuVernay, who reportedly fought fiercely to helm the project after becoming obsessed with curling during late-night Olympic binges.
Sources close to production say the series will follow three rival teams through the 2025–2026 season as they battle for spots at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Cameras will capture everything: the hushed tension of the hack, the thunderous sweep of brushes on pebbled ice, the psychological warfare of blank ends, and the post-game camaraderie over Tim Hortons coffee and beer.
Episode highlights reportedly include:
A deep dive into the infamous “Hackner Double” and its lingering trauma 40 years later.
A Swedish skip who communicates exclusively through subtle broom taps.
A rookie Canadian team attempting to revive the aggressive “Ryan Express” style.
An entire episode dedicated to the science and artistry of ice preparation — described by one crew member as “more gripping than you’d believe.”
Netflix’s head of unscripted content called it “the Drive to Survive of winter sports,” claiming early test screenings left audiences “on the edge of their seats, yelling ‘HURRY HARD!’ at their TVs.”
Curling legend Jennifer Jones and broadcaster Vic Rauter are signed on as commentators, with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer reportedly creating an epic score featuring sweeping percussion and glacial strings.
Ice Kings: The Silent Roar is slated for release in late 2026, perfectly timed to ride the Olympic wave.
In a statement, Netflix said: “Curling is the most misunderstood, underrated, and unexpectedly dramatic sport on Earth. We’re here to fix that.”
The World Curling Federation has already declared December 13 “Global Curling Documentary Day” in celebration.
