The Premier League was interested in the AC Milan star who Leicester City ‘wanted’ to sign.

Charles de Ketelaere allegedly remains of interest to the City leadership, according to the most recent Leicester City transfer news from LeicestershireLive.

Leicester City reportedly ‘wanted’ to sign AC Milan midfielder Charles de Ketelaere in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old is said to have been on City’s radar for some time, with the club linked to the youngster last summer amid interest from Leeds United, Arsenal and Milan. In the end, the Belgian ended up making the switch to the Serie A side from Club Brugge for a reported €35million (£31m).

De Ketelaere has struggled to live up to expectations in Italy, having made short appearances off the bench. According to Italian outlet La Repubblica, both City and Brighton & Hove Albion have been keeping tabs with the player’s situation, and apparently “wanted the enigmatic De Ketelaere” in January. Though there was no claim of “concrete moves being made”, however.

Journalist Carlo Pellegatti said of the situation: “At the moment, he is very far from the player [Stefano] Pioli expects but I don’t know of any intentions to sell De Ketelaere.”

The interest from City and Brighton was also confirmed, and he continued: “If the English clubs came with significant money, the thing would be evaluated, but in principle, it’s hoped that De Ketelaere will finally become a real player again, a strong player who runs, shoots, and contributes quality on the field.
