Auburn fans should keep a watch on these three transfer portal prospects.
These three individuals would make excellent additions to Auburn’s transfer portal class.
Early signing day has passed, now it’s time to start paying attention to the transfer portal. Auburn had an excellent job closing off signing day and pulling in a high-quality class, so it’s time to finish strong in the portal.
There are still plenty of good athletes on the transfer portal that might improve Auburn’s 2024 roster.
Let’s take a look at three names that Auburn fans should be paying attention to on the transfer portal.
AJ Harris, a freshman at Georgia this season, had eight tackles in his brief time in Athens. He was a five-star athlete in the 2023 class from Phenix City, Alabama, who chose to play for the Dawgs despite being from another state. If Auburn is able to sign Harris, it would be a significant acquisition at a position of need, since several of the Tigers’ secondary players are leaving for the NFL. Adding a former five-star player with plenty of eligibility remaining would be tremendous for this Auburn squad.
Derrick Harmon is a defensive lineman who spent his first several seasons with the Michigan State Spartans, when he was teammates with Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne. Last season, Harmon recorded 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Auburn needs a couple defensive linemen in the portal, and Harmon would be an ideal candidate. He has a slew of offers from top schools in the country, so if the Tigers can land him, Hugh Freeze and his team will be really pleased.
Rico Walker, a freshman tight end from Hickory, North Carolina, began his collegiate football career at Maryland and will face Auburn in the Music City Bowl. Walker is six-foot-four and weighs 248 pounds, making him an ideal candidate for his job. He was a four-star recruit out of high school but opted to leave after only catching four receptions for 27 yards his first year. Auburn would love to have another extremely excellent tight end in their rotation behind Rivaldo Fairweather, so this is a wonderful match.
Perhaps it is the recent story of huge 5-star wide receiver Cam Coleman switching to Auburn and actually flipping his way to a state title this week. Perhaps it’s the bowl attraction in Nashville, which has already resulted in a sellout. Perhaps it’s the Tigers’ confidence in talent acquisition under Hugh Freeze and their ability to recover swiftly in basketball under Bruce Pearl? Perhaps it’s just plain old-fashioned holiday enthusiasm.
