Kentucky fans ran former head coach John Calipari out of town after what was the team’s second first-round exit in three years, and appear to be conflicted with where the team went to replace him.
While many thought they were the top job in college basketball, Kentucky was turned down by Alabama’s Nate Oats, Baylor’s Scott Drew, and UConn’s Dan Hurley.
The coach that they had run out of town who had won them a title in 2012, and produced three No. 1 picks, 35 first-round picks, 23 lottery picks, and 47 total players drafted to the NBA, landed at Arkansas and may have a better gig there in terms of support of fans and NIL.
On Thursday evening, reports revealed that the Wildcats would turn to former player and BYU coach Mark Pope who was actually on their 1995-96 championship team. While the hire itself seems to be the right move considering Pope has six seasons of 20+ wins in his nine years of coaching,
which features two tournament appearances at BYU one of which during their first year in the loaded Big 12, Kentucky fans are not taking it well.
